Common Questions about the Mercedes Differential Service
What are the benefits of Mercedes Differential Servicing?
A Mercedes differential service ensures that you differential has fresh fluid inside. This is critical for preventing difficult shifting, clunks and noises.
By having your differential serviced on time and before any noises or clunks occur, owners often see 500,000km before rebuild or replacement is required.Â
How long does Mercedes Differential fluid last?
Mercedes specifies that the fluid in differentials can last up to 300,000km or ten years in between replacement.
But, we often see that the fluid becomes dark in colour by 150,000km, so we use this as our recommended service interval.
How can I get my Differential checked?
If you are unsure about the condition of your differential fluid, the good news is that we check both during any of our A, B or Major services and will advise you if a differential / axle service is required for your Mercedes.
Is it called a Differential, or an Axle?
Differential and Axle are just a different name for the same thing! The Axle fluid service and Differential fluid service are the same thing for a Mercedes and both terms can be used.
Reasons for servicing your Differential
Keeps your Mercedes prepared for towing or heavy loads, and reduces wear in your differential which can cause clunks or noises.Â
